Top Role Playing Games of 2012 (for the PC).
The most epic list you’re going to find. (EVAR!) So, what’s going to happen in 2012, RPG Guy?
Have you ever thought of becoming a video game tester?
10. Transformers Online
Transformers? Online!? Right.
You get to create and play one of your own transformers. Not a whole lot has come out about the game so far; however, since the third movie is coming out we’re going to see a lot of fans check out this game.
Can you imagine the PvP? I’m really looking forward to see how this one plays out.
9. Phantasy Star Online 2
Remember the first game? The Phantasy Star universe is one of the best out there. They are one of the few that have bridged the gap between Sci-Fiction and Fantasy. With this, you get a very in-depth and rich universe that has all kinds of secrets to it that you get to find out and actually be a part of.
The first Phantasy Star Online was one of those diamonds in the rough that really had so much promise. PSO2 is sure to strengthen up it’s weaknesses and greatly surpass its predecessor. What do you think? Diamond or dud?
8. Star Wars: The Old Republic
Bioware and LucasArts have created the online Star Wars game that should have been the first time. The good thing about this game’s story is that it starts way before Darth Vader ever was which means that the developers can really play around with what happens.
You also get the choice to be a Jedi… or a Sith.

7. Dragon Age III
Bioware has done it again – with Dragon Age III hitting the number 7 position in the top role playing games of 2012 (for the PC). That last part, (for the PC) is supposed to be whispered. Go back and read it… and make sure to whisper it.
Do it…!
How is the Dragon Age series going to one-up itself with this game? Simple. They’re adding a multi-player function.
What do you think about that?
6. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

This cinematic game (It has 2 1/2 hours of cut scenes.) has finally allowed you to manipulate the world in a way like no other with its non-linear story-line. With a vast amount of characters and fantastic characterization this game is definitely turning heads.
Every decision that you make, every bit of dialogue that you say has a certain consequence that can help create the non-linear story that is The Witcher. What will you choose?

The effects are stunning to say the least. This amazing role playing game is going to be one of the biggest games in 2012. I’m sure many-a-fan is already crying tears of joy over this game. Thank you again, Bioware! :-)
You: I know I am!
The RPG Guy: I know, little guy. I know.

4. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Can’t you tell why this is on the list? It’s visually on-point. By the way, this is an actual screen shot of game-play.
Also, ever heard of R.A. Salvatore? Yeah, I hope so, or I will have to banish you from the blog. He kinda wrote The Drizzt series and has also breathed life into the history and story-telling of Kingdoms of Amalur.
Not to mention artist and comic book creator Todd McFarlane (He did Spawn.) has worked his magic on this game as well.
Quite the cast so far and thus the reason why this has landed the #4 spot on Top Role Playing Games of 2012 (for the PC).

3. Diablo III
I remember playing the first Diablo years ago. After playing for about an hour, I looked down at the time and realized that actually 6 hours had passed! It was then that I realized that “El Diablo” is in control of the time-space continuum.
What’s great about the Diablo series is that they stuck to their roots with this game, which is why it has done so well. Expect a huge following, plus some coming to Diablo III. So, just remember…
El Diablo!

2. Rift
The first five minutes of this game instantly hook you. The visual effects are absolutely outstanding plus who doesn’t want to have 3 different classes that you can use simultaneously?
Given enough time – perhaps 2013, Rift may finally be the one to over-take the #1 spot of the top role playing games of 2012.
PS. Want to master Rift? Then you need to click here!
Did you already purchase the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Collector’s Edition?
Were you surprised? I mean, you said, “wow.”
You: No, I didn’t! You made me! Plus, I only said it in my head.
The RPG Guy: That’s because I’m in you’re head too.
You: OMG! You are!? /scared /pee on leg
The RPG Guy: Did you just pee on your-
You: Yeah… :(
Perhaps one of these days a bigger “RPG-fish” will bump WoW from the #1 position of the top role playing games, but it’s not going to be in 2012. WoW still has too much going for it.
Given Blizzard’s experience and WoW’s enormous fan base and of course a crew of elite dancing monkeys, no wonder it hit the #1 position… again.
And who doesn’t like dancing monkeys? I know I do!
Click here to purchase World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Collector’s Edition. It’s stinkin’ awesome!

Great list! I’m particularly excited for D3… but who isn’t. I’m a little confused as to why that wouldn’t go in the top slot, since we all know Blizzard won’t release another WoW expansion for 2 years…
And I have to say, the Transformers MMO… I give that whole concept a thumbs down. If anything, Marvel Online is coming soon and it will be FREE to play. Can’t help but wonder if that model will be the only real way an MMO can compete with WoW and the new darling, Rift?
Yeah, D3 looks pretty stinkin’ awesome!
I think if they follow the model for the Transformers movies there will be some major win – match the cinematic qualities with some interesting transformations / classes and this game will be very interesting.
True about Marvel Online. I just hope that it’s better than City of Heroes.
Yes, Rift looks very promising. You can see some of the gameplay here: http://youtu.be/K_9oiBivg-g
(About 8 min’s in you can see the falling meteors from the distance. It creates a great ambiance.)
I appreciate your comments, Jen! Thanks for dropping by! :-)
Rift *promising*? But it’s already out. Been out. Beta played. Friends have played. Snooze. That’s so 2011!
Hahaha! /DANCE!
By the way, Jen, I meant that it was promising in the sense that it was going to be in the #2 position for 2012. I knew it was already out there, Leroy I’m sorry… I meant Ms. 2012! :-)
Also, I see you’re not one for dance battles… too bad.
Thanks for some quality points there. I am kind of new to online , so I printed this off to put in my file, any better way to go about keeping track of it then printing?
Thank you! That’s probably the most efficient way to use this information off-line; however, your easiest way is to bookmark the page.
I would also suggest to subscribe (top right) for further gaming updates.
It’s spooky how clveer some ppl are. Thanks!
Sometimes I scare myself!
I don’t do a lot of PC gaming, but I’ll probably get the top three just because I love role playing games.
Go for it! Let me know what you think!
Didn’t you say the same thing – just under a different name?
I wntaed to spend a minute to thank you for this.
I’d like to take a minute to thank you back. Thank you. Hehe.
Excellent report and easy to understand explanation. How do I go about getting permission to post part of the article in my upcoming newsletter? Giving proper credit to you the article author and hyperlink to the site would not be a problem.

hi-ya i came to youre blog, and I have read some great articles on it. It’s all about the game let’s PLAY!!!
Thanks for coming by and taking the time to leave a comment! And remember… Get your geek on! :-)
I have been watching Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning like a hawk. February can’t come quick enough. Skyrim keeps me occupied though.
In regards to your WoW: Cataclysm comment, it might not take anyone else other than Blizzard to send it flying headfirst off of its ivory tower. WoW: Mists of Panderia aka Kung Fu Panda. ‘Nuff said.
Rift lacked variety. That’s what killed it for me. You had two options: Guardian or Defiant. No matter which race you chose on either side, all of that side’s quests were exactly the same. Although, I do have to give Trion kudos for blending Sci-Fi and Fantasy into the same game almost seamlessly.
I’m surprised GuildWars2 didn’t make the list, or Tera Online…
Yeah, I hear ya’. That KoA has got some great people behind it and it looks great!
I think people are going to love Mists of Panderia, even if you are playing a Kung Fu Panda. For a second I thought you were referring to their newest juggernaut Titan.
Yes, the Sci-Fi + Fantasy mixture definitely made Rift awesome. You never know – with time, more options may be available.
I appreciate your insight here for what should be on the list. When I revamp it, we’ll have to see where GW2 and Tera end up. Recently, we have began an honorable mentions section as well, so we’ll see where things fall again, through out the year.
Thanks for the comment!
I believe yuor content material great, appreciate your hard work. You should keep it up forever! Best of luck with your rpg endeavors and it helps all the rest of us.
Hi Sal – thank you for taking the time to make this nice comment.
Not a bad list. I was hopeing ot see more MMOs.
Thanks! I’ll make sure to make a new post of just MMO’s just for you. :-P
Some really awesome games are coming out! I’m sure there were a lot more that didn’t make it here too. Good list.
Yes, no doubt. It definitley took quite a while to properly review, check for new games and determine their order. Of course on any given day, several of these could swap places.
Some interesting new games coming out here. I’m liking what a see though.
Yeah, what in particular are you looking towards the most?
Great stuff here!
Thanks! :-)
Good stuff I’ve bookmarked this in Digg under “Top Role Playing Games of 2012 (for the PC)”. Cheers!
Great to hear! If you need anything else, let me know!
Great list! Thakns!
Thank you!
“How is the Dragon Age series going to one-up itself with this game?”
Considering how awful DA2 was, it shouldn’t be too hard to “one-up” that failed sequel. I’m referring to the ‘PC version’ – where it was pretty obvious that Bioware tried to expand the popularity of the original by dumbing down the game to appeal to console gamers.
Understandable after all they are a business. Course, it did nothing but alienate most of those that bought DA2 *because* they were fans of DAO.
Yes, I think you make a good point here and a subject that could be widely debated. When it comes to changes – how much is too much?
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment!
Great article! I loved the insight and advice given. In addition, your writing style is very fun to read. If you have enough time please explore my new blog and let me know what you think.
